ABOUT THE COURSE:Quality teacher interventions are crucial for achieving the goals of NEP 2020, with pedagogical knowledge and teaching methods defining teacher professionalism. Teacher education programs emphasize effective pedagogy and teaching practices. Research shows that children learn languages quickly, and abstract concepts are grasped better when taught in their mother tongue or local language. To enhance language learning, maximum exposure to the target language is essential. This course equips students & prospective-teachers with language teaching skills, covering the nature, scope, importance, and functions of language. It also focuses on non-verbal communication, historical and policy perspectives, teaching methods, and the development of speaking, reading, and writing skills. This course will be highly beneficial for students pursuing FYUP course, teacher training programs, including B.Ed., M.Ed., and the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP).INTENDED AUDIENCE: Students Pursuing Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma, B.Ed/ M.Ed/ BA (FYUP, Any Discipline)/ MA (Any Discipline), BA.B.Ed/ B.Sc.B.Ed & B.Com.B.EdPREREQUISITES: Qualified class XII in any discipline

Week 1: Nature,Scope and Historical Perspective of Language:

1. Functions of Language, Language learning, and Language acquisition.2. Historical perspective of the Language with a special focus on inclusivity in classrooms3. Multilingualism in Indian Context4. Recommendations/suggestions of various committees, commissions, and policies on teaching-learning the Language in school education5. Linkages between literature and society

Week 2:Communication Skills:

1. Verbal communication and Nonverbal communication2. Kinesics & Proxemics3. Effective use of Body language4. Interpretation of body language cues5. Factors affecting Communication

Week 3:Development of Speaking Skill:

Week 4:Development of Reading Skill:

1. Skimming and Scanning2. Intensive and Extensive Reading3. Loud Reading and Silent Reading4. Mechanics of Reading5. Reading comprehension of technical material

Week 5:Development of Writing Skill:

Week 6:Approaches of Teaching Language:

1. Inductive & deductive2. Constructivist and experiential learning3. Art-integrated learning4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for language5. Language laboratory

Week 7:Assessment and Evaluation:

1. Assessment and evaluation: Need for and importance of Languages.2. Strategies for continuous assessment- formative, summative assessment & 360o assessment.3. Tools and techniques of assessment and evaluation: Basic steps of question paper setting.4. Performance assessment: Creating platform and portfolio management, assessment of lab skills.5. Tools and techniques of assessment and evaluation: Types of test items and preparing answer key and
criteria for evaluation.

Week 8:Research and Innovation:

1. Divergent thinking and innovations for quality learning experiences.2. Recent trends in research related to teaching learning of Language.3. Action research: significance and steps.4. Evidence-based practices and reflection, school-based research in Language.5. Effective communication with special reference to multilingualism using Language lab and virtual lab.
