In this course on The Skin, Bones, and Muscles, you will learn about the wonderful diversity of the integumentary, skeletal, and muscular systems and the medical language that is used to describe these systems. Throughout each Lesson, the roots of terms are explained to help students understand how medical terminology works in healthcare and to increase their knowledge and understanding of the material discussed. This course will provide you with a better understanding and working knowledge of medicine that is required for understanding of medical records used for multiple purposes and job duties in the medical field. Lessons include: Integumentary System, Skeletal System, and Muscular System.

Syllabus

Module 1: Integumentary System

Explore the integumentary system and its vital role in protecting the body. In this module, you will learn the anatomy and physiology of the skin, common skin pathologies, burns and burn assessment, skin cancer, and key medical terminology related to the integumentary system. By understanding the roots and meanings of medical terms, you will build a stronger foundation for interpreting healthcare documentation and communicating effectively in medical settings.

Module 2: Skeletal System

Gain an understanding of the skeletal system and the structures that support and protect the body. This module covers bone anatomy and physiology, the axial and appendicular skeletons, vertebrae, joints, and common skeletal disorders. Throughout the lesson, you will develop familiarity with medical terminology associated with bones and joints, helping you strengthen the language skills needed to understand medical records and healthcare communications.

Module 3: : Muscular System

Discover the muscular system and how it enables movement, posture, and body function. In this module, you will learn about muscle anatomy and physiology, muscle contraction, metabolism, movement, major skeletal muscles, and related medical terminology. By examining the roots and meanings of key medical terms, you will enhance your understanding of muscular system concepts and build practical knowledge for healthcare-related roles and responsibilities.
