Exploring English: Language and Culture

"Exploring English: Language and Culture" is a fantastic course in four weeks that will improve our productive (writing and speaking) and receptive (reading and listening) skills. Every week deals with a different subject: week 1 explores English language and its importance in the world; week 2 is about Music and how it makes a difference; week 3 describes the Countryside, and week 4 focuses on Literature. It goes without saying that they are used to help us to learn English the best way possible. That is, by using words and structures in context we will capture concepts and understand a new vision of life and the world.

Teachers deserve special mention. Professionalism, seriousness and love for what they do is what has always characterised British Council. It is particularly remarkable the way they interact and encourage us to continue learning by providing us with additional material and resources. They are always there doing their best and solving every doubt (sometimes it seems they do not sleep!). Without their support, it would not be possible to move forward and interact with them and our classmates.

Last but not least, learners. We are like a family, supporting one another and sharing our views on everything. Through our classmates’ commentaries we learn and open our minds to different societies, sometimes far distant from ours but always retaining that magic that makes us be better, more understanding human beings. They will always be in our hearts.

In conclusion," Exploring English: Language and Culture" is an unforgettable course that you should definitely join if you want to enjoy your learning process and discover a new way to learn English successfully.

I reallly enjoyed this course. As a Latin American English student I learned much of the English Culture along the coure. Since the British Countrysides, which I had a more surface view, the unique view and description of the landscapes are maginc and I would love to go there to know directly. The Shakespeare introduction for me was a great surperise that now I think that Shakespeare works are not far from my knowledge and taking some more time to read his works I am sure I would learn much more of the English literature and history. As I also looked in more detail the history of Sherlock Holmes and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle environment and main facts that sorrpunded his main creation I also discovered more and great details of this work. I also liked a lot taking contact with other guys and girls around the world and it was another thing that i enjoyed, the opportunity to know much more about far places that I had not know before more, places like Pakistan, Japan, Ukraine, Polland, Russia, Myanmar, I would say it was also a great experience interchanging many information with my partners. I also enjoyed a lot the conversations, summaries, suggestions from the guys and girls Tina, Chris, Greta and Chris. I at last would like to thank for your valuable support and I would like the covid age finish very soon in England and all the countries as well. Hope all fo you be happy and see you..! Thank You a very LOT..!

I would like to thank every educator for their dedication to this course and learners. As a worker and a father of family I sometimes have not to much time a day, so I was following the course a Friday evening and I had an answer less than five minutes later. Well... the educator was there, working, at that hour, when maybe he should be enjoying his weekend. So, thanks again.
Every topic is very well prepared, they try us to talk as much as possible, to interact with each other, and that's really fantastic. It isn't here you have the lesson, learn it, make the exercises and finish. No way, you have some exercises, that's truth, but the main exercise is to interact, to talk, to express yourself, your thoughts and your feelings sometimes.
I'm enjoying this course, and no doubt I'll join other courses by British Council.

It's not only great opportunity to improve your language but also really great fun! I enjoy every minute of this course. I think that the best part of the course is the contact with different people from all over the world. Everyone are friendly and helpful and you can fill relaxed and give your best without stress. People are sharing their experience and thoughts what makes a special bond between all the students and gives us great opportunity to learn not only from tutors, but also form each other. No matter how well you speak English you can always teach something another people and learn something form them. Materials presented during the course are short but really interesting. They let us think about some important issues and make learning easier. It is also important that you can learn in the way you like, without a rush, without critisism, just whenever you are ready. I would recommend the course to everyone interested in English language and the way that it is connected with culture, especially British culture.

I like this course. I am really feel that I am learning a lot . I have learned new words, idioms and I have the opportunity to listen native teachers . Nowadays english is spoken for lots of people all over the world and through this course on line I have the opportunity to learn and practice more. Learning a different language from your mother tongue needs practice and learn the context we talk to. Also I have been learning culture. It´s very interestig . I didn´t know about music festivals that gather such amount of people and last out three or four days , how music is so important in U K and how we can use it in our learning english. I recomend this course that through interesting topics I am involve with english language. I´ve organized my schedule in order to have time for my classes on line. I am very excited to practice and learn more.

At first I would like to thank British Council for giving me a chance to join this online program. In week 2 lessons I have learned about British music. Music is at the heart of British culture. Their Soco music project is making a big difference of kid's life and disadvantaged people. This project work with young people, homeless people, drug addicted and people who has mental health problems.
Glastonbury festivals is a huge fastival. Here they offer fantastic range of music and other forms of intertainment.
In language work section we have learned relative pronoun and relative clauses and a little bit focused on passive voice. we discussed about live music, protecting music, how can music change our lives. In the end I would like to say music plays an important role in our lives, society and media.

It’s an engaging course taking as a starting point our feelings towards language and the importance of the indivisible union of language and culture, as culture is reflected through language by means of speech in verse or prose. We learned in the course why it is said English is a global language and the influence of technology in learning English and how it has changed the way to learn the language. We reviewed the use of the passive voice, the comparatives, superlatives, relative clauses and their significance in literature. We also learned about the relevance of music in culture and how music influences people’s life in society and picked up some of the best known musicians.
Besides we saw the usefulness of music in language learning and how to choose what kind of music would be better to use in our classrooms. We also touched another theme, and it was the nature of the country as a unique part of learning about culture, it’s a really nice experience picturing or having some knowledge about different regions and their most beautiful sites. Finally we got some information about some of the best writers of the country and something essential, we all had the opportunity to share information related to everything discussed from our homelands.

What for a good course! Indeed, these 4 weeks, our educators have sown seeds of interest to further deepen the knowledge of the UK language and culture.
English and American songs are present anywhere: at my fitness club and at the radio. I was surprised: For the first time in my life, I am carefully listening to understand the meaning of the lyrics! I also have a new list of English readings to spend the winter in a pleasant way. I also have the intention to go to the Global Theater in London and enjoy a Shakespeare play. Even if I am not going to understand some words, I am sure that I will be happy to listen to the music of the text, and the beauty of the building. In any case, when I now watch TV series and films, I avoid to read the sub-titles! I is amazing, as the pleasure is different. I gain something these weeks, maybe it is called confidence.
