Microcredential Structure (What you will learn)

Participants will progress through five modules, each with video content, readings, and interactive activities. Formative assessments (quizzes, reflection activities) will be embedded throughout. A final summative assessment in the form of a policy review and inclusion action plan will be required to complete the course.

  • Engage with all module content and activities
  • Complete formative assessments such as quizzes and reflection exercises
  • Submit a final project (policy review or inclusion action plan)


The 5 modules include

  1. Information about Gender and Sexuality Diversity in Schools: Provides foundational knowledge about gender and sexuality diversity, exploring the challenges faced by GSD learners and the importance of inclusive frameworks.
  2. Information about Legal and Policy Frameworks for GSD Inclusion: Deepens understanding of legal and policy protections for GSD learners, focusing on how educators can apply these frameworks in practice.
  3. Ways to Create Safe and Affirming Spaces for GSD Learners: Offers practical strategies for developing supportive environments where GSD learners belong, encouraging reflection on current practices to foster inclusivity.
  4. Strategies for Pedagogy and Curriculum Inclusion: Encourages critical assessment of school environments and teaching practices, identifying gaps in GSD inclusion and improving pedagogy and culture through reflective strategies.
  5. Ideas for Policy Implementation and Reflective Practice: Enables participants to create actionable plans for improving GSD inclusion, reviewing existing policies and developing school-specific strategies for long-term inclusivity.

Syllabus

  • Identify and understand the unique challenges and experiences faced by gender and sexuality diverse learners in K-12 settings and their families.
  • Apply relevant state and federal departmental policies to confidently implement inclusive pedagogical strategies and administrative practices that support gender and sexuality diverse learners.
  • Address and counteract gender-based violence and bullying, fostering a school environment that supports both GSD learners and educators.
  • Critically reflect on and improve their own practices to create more inclusive and supportive classroom environments.
