This introductory course explains smart-grid concepts, system and communication architectures, interoperability standards, cybersecurity, and Advanced Metering Infrastructure. It examines how physical infrastructure, digital layers, and operational protocols interact in contemporary power networks.

Syllabus

  • Demonstrate the understanding to explain the fundamental concepts of the smart grid.
  • Describe the framework, system architecture, communication architecture, and key standards for smart grid interoperability and cybersecurity.
  • Identify and explain Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and its components as key enabling technologies for smart grids.
  • Outline the key elements of smart grid frameworks and architecture, including the interactions between physical infrastructure, digital layers, and operational protocols in contemporary power networks.
