This practice-focused, two-day course is designed to strengthen post-award oversight across the federal grant lifecycle. It explores how effective monitoring integrates compliance requirements, performance management, and risk-based decision making to protect federal interests while supporting successful program outcomes. Participants move beyond checklist monitoring to understand how oversight decisions influence audit outcomes, corrective actions, and program credibility. Through realistic scenarios and applied exercises, the course examines how to design proportional monitoring strategies, interpret financial and performance information, identify early warning signs of program risk, and respond appropriately when compliance or performance issues arise.
Participants also learn how to document monitoring activities clearly and defensibly while coordinating corrective actions, technical assistance, and enforcement responses when necessary. The course emphasizes practical oversight strategies aligned with 2 CFR 200, OMB expectations, and Inspector General review standards. By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to monitor with purpose, assess risk, and make oversight decisions that support both compliance and program performance.
