Purpose Strategy and Vision is an advanced leadership and strategic management course designed for senior professionals and experienced cross-functional leaders who are responsible for translating organizational intent into aligned action. Learners will facilitate vision and purpose workshops; apply frameworks including Simon Sinek’s Golden Circle and Barrett Values mapping; while building alignment systems that connect organizational purpose, team priorities, and OKRs. Using AI-augmented Microsoft workflows, learners will develop practical leadership artifacts—including a purpose charter, alignment matrix, and measurement approach—and assemble an executive-ready portfolio demonstrating how purpose can be operationalized and evaluated through measurable strategic outcomes. Recommended Prerequisites To gain the greatest value from this advanced course, learners should have: Leadership experience: Recommended experience leading teams, initiatives, or cross-functional work. A minimum of three years in a people-management, project-lead, program-lead, or comparable role is recommended. Strategic foundations: Working familiarity with organizational goal setting, including KPIs, OKRs, performance measures, and the relationship between strategy, priorities, and team execution. Microsoft 365 proficiency: Intermediate working proficiency with core Microsoft 365 tools, particularly Teams, SharePoint, and Excel or comparable spreadsheet/data-analysis experience. Data and AI readiness: Basic familiarity with interpreting data, using dashboards, and working responsibly with AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft Copilot. Framework readiness: Openness to applying purpose, values, and strategic-alignment frameworks in realistic organizational contexts. Prior exposure to the Golden Circle, values mapping, or similar frameworks is helpful but not required if appropriate introductory scaffolding is included. By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Create leadership charters that translate Responsible AI principles into quarterly behaviors and OKRs. - Facilitate Golden Circle workshops and analyze vision alignment across business units. - Draft mission statements using values mapping and measure clarity through pulse surveys. - Design values-tracking dashboards and alignment matrices that link team goals to organizational purpose.

Syllabus

Purpose Charter: Diagnose Clarity and Decide on Approach

Before building anything new, effective leaders assess what already exists. This module teaches you to read the signals of purpose misalignment and decide whether your organization needs a new charter or refinement of existing artifacts.

Purpose Charter: Create a Tech-with-Purpose Charter

With your diagnosis complete, it's time to build. This module guides you through creating a leadership charter that connects Responsible AI principles to concrete quarterly behaviors and measurable OKRs your team can act on.

Purpose Charter: Evaluate Effectiveness and Adjust

A charter only matters if it drives change. This module teaches you to measure charter effectiveness by correlating trust data with OKR attainment, then adjust based on what the data reveals.

Golden-Circle: Diagnose Misalignment and Select Approach

Before running a vision workshop, you need to understand why alignment is missing and choose the right format for your context. This module teaches you to distinguish between clarity, communication, and strategic disagreement—and select the workshop approach that fits your stakeholders.

Golden-Circle: Facilitate the Workshop

Now you're ready to run the workshop. This module walks you through facilitating a Golden Circle session in Microsoft Teams, using Whiteboard for visual capture and Copilot to accelerate drafting of Why/How/What statements.

Golden-Circle: Analyze Alignment and Refine

The workshop produces draft statements, but the real work is ensuring alignment sticks. This module teaches you to map business unit objectives to your new vision canvas, identify gaps, and refine statements based on resistance patterns.

Drafting Mission Statements with Barrett Values

Learn the Barrett Values framework for understanding organizational culture and use it to ground your mission statement in authentic values. You'll draft a concise 40-word statement using Copilot iterations, refining for clarity, memorability, and alignment with your organization's actual culture.

Measuring Mission Clarity

Learn to measure whether your mission statement actually resonates with employees. You'll design and launch a Viva Pulse survey targeting mission clarity, analyze results against an 80% "strongly agree" benchmark, and iterate on wording based on feedback.

Values Tracker: Define Scope & Design the Tracker

Tracking every decision creates noise; tracking none creates no accountability. This module teaches you to define which decisions are worth tracking and design a Power BI dashboard that makes value alignment visible.

Values Tracker: Evaluate and Adjust

A tracker is only useful if you act on what it reveals. This module teaches you to run quarterly reviews that evaluate value alignment and adjust your tracking approach when data quality degrades.

Alignment Matrix: Build the Cascading Structure

Alignment happens when every team can see how their work connects to organizational purpose. This module teaches you to build a cascading matrix that makes those connections explicit and actionable.

Alignment Matrix: Analyze and Realign

A matrix reveals alignment gaps when you analyze it systematically. This module teaches you to use Copilot-generated heat maps to identify low-linkage teams and propose realignments.

Project Module: Purpose Leadership Charter & Analytics

Integrate everything you've learned about purpose strategy into a portfolio-ready leadership package. You'll create a purpose charter with linked OKRs (Objectives and Key Results), a cascading alignment matrix section, and an effectiveness measurement plan—documenting your approach in a format you can share with stakeholders or use in performance conversations while recognizing that strong alignment on paper does not always translate to consistent execution.
