You have developed skills to be successful in your field. In this course, you will learn the practical skills you need to be an effective leader in your organization. Leadership enhances the skills employees at all levels need to be truly successful. When you learn practical leadership skills, you'll have the ability to motivate, coach, communicate with, and teach employees in such a way that they are more effective in their jobs and, as a result, you become more effective in your job. Individuals taking this course may be new managers and individual contributors seeking to develop or enhance leadership abilities with practical skills. In this course, you will: transition from an individual contributor to a leader; develop an effective team; lead a team effectively; increase your effectiveness in leading different types of teams; and develop a team mission, values statement, and vision to achieve business results.

Syllabus

  • Transitioning from Individual Contributor to Leader
    • To be effective in your new role as a leader, you need to successfully make the transition from individual contributor to leader. In this lesson, you will begin to make that transition by defining leadership, identifying your leadership style, and redefining your role.
  • Developing an Effective Team
    • In the previous lesson, you assessed your own leadership style and redefined your role. As a successful leader, you will also need to identify and acquire the skills necessary to achieve the company's vision. You'll need to develop your team, coach employees to improve performance, and empower others to motivate them and inspire achievement. In this lesson, you will focus on building an effective team.
  • Leading a Team Effectively
    • In the previous lesson, you built an effective team by developing, coaching, and empowering employees. Now, by influencing your employees, you'll lead them to achieve team and organizational goals, and you'll also lead them through the inevitable organizational change. In this lesson, you'll lead a team effectively.
  • Leading Different Types of Teams
    • In the last lesson, you gained strategies to get results through influence and lead your team through organizational change. Now you need to prepare for dealing with diversity in team projects. In this lesson, you will develop your knowledge of diversity in teams and increase your effectiveness in leading them.
  • Aligning Your Strategy for Business Results
    • In the previous lesson, you identified strategies to lead different types of teams and overcome issues among team members. Leadership today is characterized by developing effective teams and leading diverse groups with a focus on accountability, integrity, and ethics. To be truly successful, leaders need to focus on organizational strategy. In this lesson, you will develop a team mission, values statement, and vision to achieve business results.
  • Completing the Course
    • You'll wrap things up and then validate what you've learned in this course by taking an assessment.
