Syllabus

Getting SLES 16 Up and Running (Physical and Cloud)
- This module guides learners through the process of installing and configuring SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16 on both physical and virtual machines, as well as deploying it in cloud environments. Participants will explore step-by-step installation procedures, storage configuration, and best practices to ensure a successful setup tailored to different use cases.
Running Basic Commands and Simple Shell Scripts
- This module introduces foundational skills for working with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, including logging in, navigating the filesystem, managing users, and manipulating files and directories from the command line. Learners will also explore input/output redirection, filtering command output, and creating basic shell scripts with conditionals to automate tasks.
Managing Regular Operations with Tools
- This module guides learners through essential system administration tasks, including managing services with systemd, scheduling automated jobs, and ensuring accurate time synchronization using chrony. Learners will also explore monitoring CPU usage, reviewing system logs, and implementing log rotation to maintain system reliability and performance.
Securing the System with Users, Groups and Permissions
- This module guides learners through managing user accounts and groups, configuring sudo for secure administrative access, and setting file permissions to protect system resources. By working with both standard and special permissions, learners will strengthen their ability to secure a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server environment.
Enabling Network Connectivity
- This module guides learners through configuring network interfaces using both graphical and command-line tools in SLES, managing hostnames and DNS resolution, and implementing basic firewall settings. By the end, you will be able to establish reliable and secure network connectivity for Linux servers.
Adding, Patching, and Managing Software
- This module guides learners through the essentials of managing software on SUSE Linux Enterprise servers, including subscription setup, repository configuration, and the use of Zypper for installing, updating, and removing packages. Learners will gain practical skills to maintain system security and compatibility throughout the software lifecycle.
