In this course, you will gain hands-on experience building a complete Salesforce Property Management application from scratch. By working with Salesforce technologies such as Apex, Visualforce, and custom objects, you'll acquire the skills to create real-world applications that can be showcased in interviews and on your resume. You'll begin by creating the foundational structure for your app, including custom objects for Rental Units, Agreements, and Payments. Throughout the course, you will learn how to integrate third-party services, such as Authorize.Net, for payment processing and how to manage these connections securely. The course is designed for aspiring Salesforce developers, Salesforce admins transitioning into development, and developers familiar with programming basics who wish to build Salesforce applications. No prior knowledge of Salesforce development is required, though familiarity with basic programming concepts is beneficial.

Syllabus

  • Overview of Property Management Application
    • In this module, we will introduce you to the core concepts and objectives of the Property Management Application. You will also set up your Salesforce developer account, a critical first step in the application-building process. Finally, we’ll guide you through creating the first custom application for property management within Salesforce.
  • Creating our first custom object: Rental Unit
    • In this module, we will explore the Rental Unit custom object and teach you how to add essential fields for data management. You will learn how Salesforce custom objects work and how they help structure data within the Property Management Application. By the end of this section, you will have a solid foundation for building data structures in Salesforce.
  • Working on the 2nd custom object related to Property Management App
    • In this module, we will guide you through the creation of the Rental Agreement custom object, necessary for managing contracts in your application. You will add relevant fields to this object, ensuring comprehensive data capture for rental agreements. Additionally, we’ll explain the relationships between the Rental Unit and Rental Agreement objects to help you better structure your app.
  • Working on third Custom Object: Statement Object
    • In this module, we will introduce you to the Statement custom object and walk you through the process of creating it within Salesforce. You will learn how to add essential fields for financial tracking and reporting. By the end of this section, you will have a fully functional Statement object integrated into your property management app.
  • Adding fourth Custom Object: Payment Object
    • In this module, we will guide you through creating the Payment custom object and adding the necessary fields to capture payment data. You will learn how to link the Payment object to rental agreements and statements, ensuring all financial data is connected seamlessly in your Salesforce application.
  • Record Types for Payment Object
    • In this module, we will teach you how to create and configure record types within Salesforce. You will set up record types for various payment methods, such as check, credit card, and cash, to categorize and manage payments effectively in your property management app.
  • Custom Setting in Salesforce
    • In this module, we will dive into custom settings within Salesforce, explaining how they store and manage configuration data. You will set up custom settings to store API credentials and learn how to enable communication between Salesforce and external payment systems like Authorize.Net.
  • Request and Response from Authorize.Net
    • In this module, we will focus on sending requests to Authorize.Net and handling the responses. You will learn how to structure requests for payment processing and retrieve API credentials from custom settings in Apex to facilitate communication with the payment gateway.
  • Making a Callout to the Authorize.Net
    • In this module, we will guide you through setting up an HTTP request to Authorize.Net and sending payment details for processing. You will learn how to handle the responses from the gateway to ensure smooth payment processing within your Salesforce application.
  • Remote Site Setting and Setting up an Account with Authorize.Net
    • In this module, we will walk you through setting up an account with Authorize.Net and configuring the necessary Remote Site Settings in Salesforce. You will ensure that your Salesforce application can securely communicate with external services, such as payment gateways.
  • Visualforce Page: Creating Visualforce page to capture information from Renter
    • In this module, we will teach you how to create a Visualforce page to collect payment information from renters. You will learn to add input fields for payment data and link the page to Salesforce records for seamless payment processing.
  • Create an Extension class for the Visualforce page
    • In this module, we will focus on creating an extension class for your Visualforce page. You will learn how to handle data submissions and save payment details to Salesforce records, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Sending Confirmation Email to the Renter
    • In this module, we will teach you how to send confirmation emails to renters once their payments are successfully processed. You will also add validation rules to ensure the email is sent only after a successful transaction and customize the email content.
  • Test our Property Management Application
    • In this module, we will guide you through testing your Property Management application to ensure all components work seamlessly together. You will test the functionality, add triggers for automation, and validate that data is linked correctly across your custom objects.
