Master essential data management techniques and leverage powerful .NET libraries to build robust, efficient applications. This course empowers experienced developers to handle both relational and NoSQL data while enhancing productivity with popular third-party libraries. Explore the foundations of modern .NET application development by learning how to manage relational data with SQL Server and Entity Framework Core, as well as NoSQL data using Azure Cosmos DB. Delve into multitasking and concurrency to improve application performance, and discover how to integrate widely-used third-party libraries for tasks such as logging, mapping, and validation. By the end of this course, you will be equipped to build scalable, maintainable, and high-performing .NET applications. This course combines clear explanations with practical demonstrations, guiding learners through real-world scenarios and best practices for data management and library integration in .NET. Learners will deepen their understanding through a mix of conceptual overviews and applied examples. This course is part one of a three-course Specialization designed to build a complete and cohesive understanding of the subject. While it offers valuable skills on its own, you'll gain the most benefit by progressing through all three courses as a structured learning journey. This course is based on Apps and Services with .NET 8, by Mark J. Price. Packt is one of the world's most prolific publishers of cutting-edge technical content. Syllabus

  • Introducing Apps and Services with .NET
    • This module provides an overview of setting up development environments using Visual Studio 2022 and Visual Studio Code, understanding .NET platforms, and utilizing GitHub for project management. It also covers selecting appropriate tools and technologies for building cross-platform apps and services, along with strategies for consuming Azure resources and finding programming help.
  • Managing Relational Data Using SQL Server
    • This module covers the fundamentals of managing relational data using SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and Azure SQL Edge. Learners will explore both high-level T-SQL queries and low-level API interactions through ADO.NET and Dapper, gaining practical skills in database connection, data manipulation, and object mapping.
  • Building Entity Models for SQL Server Using EF Core
    • This module teaches how to build and manage entity models for SQL Server using Entity Framework Core, focusing on inheritance mapping, reusable data models, and efficient querying techniques. Learners will gain hands-on experience in defining and interacting with database models through practical examples and code implementation.
  • Managing NoSQL Data Using Azure Cosmos DB
    • This module provides an in-depth look at managing NoSQL data using Azure Cosmos DB, covering resource creation, data manipulation via the Core (SQL) API, and strategies for optimizing performance through partitioning and throughput provisioning. Learners will gain hands-on experience with both the Azure portal and the .NET SDK.
  • Multitasking and Concurrency
    • This module covers the fundamentals of multitasking and concurrency in software development, including asynchronous task execution, thread management, and synchronization techniques. Learners will explore how to improve application responsiveness, scalability, and performance through the use of async and await, as well as how to manage shared resources safely in multi-threaded environments.
  • Using Popular Third-Party Libraries
    • This module explores the use of popular third-party .NET libraries such as ImageSharp, Serilog, AutoMapper, and Humanizer to enhance application functionality. Learners will gain hands-on experience with image manipulation, logging, object mapping, and text formatting. The module also covers testing and validation techniques using tools like xUnit and FluentAssertions.
