  • Introduction to Kubernetes
    • This module introduces the foundational concepts of Kubernetes, including its core API objects and runtime components. Learners will gain hands-on experience setting up and managing a local Kubernetes cluster using Minikube and kubectl. By the end, you'll be able to identify key Kubernetes resources and efficiently manage a development cluster.
  • Deploying Our Microservices to Kubernetes
    • This module guides learners through deploying microservices to Kubernetes using Helm, focusing on templating, configuration management, and environment-specific deployments. Learners will explore how to use Helm charts to streamline Kubernetes manifests and verify deployments in development, staging, and production environments. Practical testing and configuration strategies are also covered to ensure robust microservice deployment.
  • Implementing Kubernetes Features to Simplify the System Landscape
    • This module explores how to streamline microservice architectures by leveraging Kubernetes-native features such as ConfigMaps, Ingress, and cert-manager. Learners will discover how to replace external services with built-in Kubernetes tools, automate certificate management, and ensure system functionality after these changes. Practical steps and verification techniques are provided to support a smooth transition.
  • Using a Service Mesh to Improve Observability and Management
    • This module guides learners through implementing a service mesh with Istio to enhance observability, security, and management of microservices. You will explore traffic control, secure communication using mTLS and OAuth 2.0, resilience testing with fault injection, and strategies for zero-downtime deployments. Practical exercises include deploying multiple service versions and monitoring system behavior using tools like Kiali and Jaeger.
  • Centralized Logging with the EFK Stack

  • Installation Instructions for macOS
    • This module guides you through setting up essential development tools on macOS, including accessing course source code and configuring Docker for optimal performance. You will learn the technical requirements and post-installation steps necessary to ensure a smooth development environment. By the end, you'll be ready to execute course commands and examples efficiently.
  • Installation Instructions for Microsoft Windows with WSL 2 and Ubuntu
    • This module guides you through setting up a development environment on Windows 11 using WSL 2 and Ubuntu 24.04. You will learn how to install and configure Visual Studio Code with the Remote WSL extension to streamline your workflow between Windows and Linux. By the end, you'll be ready to access course materials and edit source code seamlessly across both systems.
  • Native Compiled Java Microservices
    • This module guides learners through the process of compiling Java microservices into native executables using GraalVM and Spring AOT.
