Microsoft 365 Identity Synchronization and Security helps learners develop practical skills for securing identities and synchronizing users between on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID. You’ll explore password management, password writeback, Conditional Access, pass-through authentication, MFA, passwordless authentication, smart lockout, and security-by-default concepts. The course then covers Microsoft Entra Connect and directory synchronization, including synchronized users and groups, password and device writeback, object filtering, and Microsoft Entra Connect installation. You’ll also compare password hash synchronization, pass-through authentication, and federated authentication while exploring hybrid identity planning, directory preparation, synchronization tools, and Microsoft Entra Connect Health. Through conceptual lessons, guided demonstrations, and practical scenarios, you’ll learn how organizations secure identities, synchronize directories, and manage hybrid identity environments. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to apply authentication, synchronization, and identity-security concepts to real-world Microsoft 365 administration scenarios. The course covers Microsoft Entra authentication, Microsoft Entra Connect, directory synchronization, hybrid identity, MFA, Conditional Access, and security administration, making Intermediate the appropriate level.

Syllabus

  • Microsoft Entra Authentication and Access Management
    • In this section, you'll explore Microsoft Entra authentication and access management, learning how to secure identities and control access to Microsoft 365 resources. You'll begin by understanding password management, password writeback, and Conditional Access policies. As you progress, you'll explore Microsoft Entra pass-through authentication and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), gaining an understanding of how these authentication methods help protect user identities. The section further introduces password less authentication, Microsoft Entra smart lockout, and Security Defaults, helping you strengthen authentication security and protect against common identity-based threats. By the end of this section, you'll have a solid understanding of Microsoft Entra authentication and access controls, enabling you to implement secure and effective identity protection strategies.
  • Microsoft Entra Connect and Directory Synchronization
    • In this section, you'll explore Microsoft Entra Connect and directory synchronization, learning how to manage synchronized identities between on-premises environments and Microsoft Entra ID. You'll begin by understanding managed users, password writeback, and device writeback. As you progress, you'll explore group management and object filtering for directory synchronization, helping you control which users, groups, and objects are synchronized to Microsoft Entra ID. The section further introduces Microsoft Identity Manager and Microsoft Entra Connect installation. Through guided demonstrations, you'll gain practical experience setting up and configuring directory synchronization. By the end of this section, you'll have a solid understanding of Microsoft Entra Connect and directory synchronization, enabling you to manage synchronized identities and maintain effective hybrid identity environments.
  • Microsoft Entra Hybrid Identity and Synchronization
    • In this section, you'll explore Microsoft Entra hybrid identity and synchronization, learning how identities are managed across on-premises and cloud environments. You'll begin by understanding different identity types and synchronization approaches, including Password Hash Synchronization, Pass-through Authentication, and Federated Authentication. As you progress, you'll explore directory synchronization and the key considerations for planning an Entra ID deployment. You'll learn how to prepare your environment and select the appropriate synchronization approach based on organizational requirements. The section further introduces directory synchronization tools and Microsoft Entra Connect Health, helping you monitor synchronization and maintain the health of your hybrid identity environment. By the end of this section, you'll have a solid understanding of Microsoft Entra hybrid identity and synchronization, enabling you to plan, implement, and monitor effective identity synchronization solutions.
