This course gives you a practical system for reviewing medical records in legal matters, from why the records matter to the authorizations you need to obtain them. We'll cover the key types and components of medical records, how to find the details that matter in basic records, and how to organize and manage a record set. We'll then decode the terminology and abbreviations you'll meet, including ICD-10 and CPT codes, work through a medical records review checklist for diagnostic reports and laboratory results, and finish with recognizing red flags and inconsistencies and handling HIPAA authorizations.
You'll learn to read a medical file with a clear method, organize it so the key facts are easy to find, and spot the red flags and inconsistencies that deserve a closer look. Your guide is Amy H. Johnson, founder of The Angle Solutions LLC, an educator, former claims professional, and paralegal with more than 25 years of law firm experience, named National Paralegal of the Year in 2017.
Each module pairs video lessons with key-takeaway readings, downloadable cheat sheets and checklists, a quiz, and a hands-on activity, and the course closes with a final assessment and an interactive role play.
