Welcome to Lifecycle, Monitoring & Troubleshooting in vSphere 8.x, a hands-on course designed to help you manage virtualized environments with lifecycle automation, real-time monitoring, and diagnostic troubleshooting. You’ll begin by learning how to use vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) to manage ESXi host updates using baseline and image-based approaches. Then, explore vCenter upgrade planning, workload migration using vCenter Converter (P2V & V2V), and core disaster recovery (DR) strategies. As you progress, you'll monitor infrastructure health using vCenter dashboards, alerts, and performance charts, and optimize performance with CPU, memory, I/O tuning, and snapshot management techniques. By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Upgrade and manage ESXi clusters using image-based lifecycle tools - Perform P2V and V2V workload migrations using vCenter Converter - Monitor resources using vCenter alarms, charts, and task consoles - Troubleshoot alerts using logs, HA tools, snapshot handling, and RVTools In the final section, you’ll work with log files, simulate host and cluster failures, and apply structured troubleshooting practices to resolve issues in a vSphere 8.x environment. This course is ideal for system administrators, NOC engineers, and IT professionals. Prior VMware experience is helpful, though not mandatory. A test lab setup is recommended to practice the labs covered in each module. Syllabus

  • Managing the vSphere Lifecycle and Migrations
    • This module introduces vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) and equips you with essential skills for host lifecycle management, upgrade planning, and virtual machine migration strategies. You'll learn how to use vLCM for maintaining ESXi host consistency, explore vCenter upgrade tools and best practices, and perform both physical-to-virtual (P2V) and virtual-to-virtual (V2V) migrations using the VMware vCenter Converter. The module concludes with an introduction to disaster recovery concepts crucial for enterprise infrastructure resilience.
  • Monitoring and I/O Optimization Techniques
    • This module helps you gain mastery in resource monitoring, real-time performance visualization, and storage path optimization in a vSphere environment. You'll utilize vCenter and ESXi-native tools like performance charts, alarms, and dashboards to monitor and troubleshoot system performance. Labs provide practical exposure to hot-add features, snapshot management alerts, and multipathing validation to ensure I/O efficiency and system responsiveness.
  • Troubleshooting vSphere Environments
    • This final module focuses on advanced troubleshooting techniques using logs, diagnostic bundles, and real-world production scenarios. You’ll learn how to identify issues in ESXi and vCenter services, use logs for root cause analysis, and handle critical alerts related to host unavailability, HA failures, datastore problems, and resource overutilization. Hands-on labs reinforce best practices for analyzing and resolving operational issues in production-grade vSphere environments.
