What happens when a GDPR audit exposes gaps in your data processing records? This Short Course was created to help Data Management and Engineering professionals implement defensible EU/UK compliance controls. By completing this course, you'll document lawful-basis justifications, detect PII lineage gaps, and configure RBAC in Microsoft Purview — skills you can apply the very next day at work. By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Apply UK GDPR/DUAA lawful-basis assessment criteria to document processing justification and retention limits for a given dataset within a ROPA template - Analyze data lineage and access patterns to identify gaps in data minimisation and subject-rights fulfilment that pose regulatory risk - Create a data classification and role-based access control matrix that aligns sensitivity labels to GDPR/UK GDPR principles and organisational policies This course is unique because it combines hands-on Microsoft Purview RBAC configuration with real ROPA entry work and PII lineage gap analysis. To be successful, you should have a background in data management fundamentals and basic privacy concepts at an intermediate level.

Syllabus

Documenting GDPR Lawful Basis in a ROPA
- Learners apply GDPR Article 6 lawful-basis assessment criteria to complete a ROPA entry — selecting the correct processing justification and retention limit for a marketing analytics dataset.
Identifying PII Lineage Gaps and Subject-Rights Risk
- Learners analyze data lineage and access patterns across Meridian's marketing analytics pipeline to identify PII fields lacking DSAR deletion workflows and assess the regulatory risk each gap creates.
Building a Data Classification and RBAC Matrix in Microsoft Purview
- Learners create a data classification and role-based access control matrix in Microsoft Purview — assigning Personal-Confidential sensitivity labels to PII fields and scoping role access to enforce GDPR data minimisation and purpose limitation.
