Syllabus

  • General Safety
    • This module focuses on the essential safety equipment and rigorous protocols necessary to maintain a zero-injury environment in HVAC work. It provides a detailed breakdown of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ranging from high-dexterity gloves for sheet metal handling to specialized respiratory protection for attic and crawlspace environments. Technicians will also learn mandatory "hot work" safety measures for soldering and brazing, as well as the life-saving application of Lockout/Tagout kits to prevent accidental equipment re-energization during maintenance.
  • Electrical Safety
    • This module focuses on the critical electrical safety practices necessary for HVAC technicians to avoid life-threatening shocks and electrocution. It covers the fundamental risks associated with high-voltage systems and provides a clear protocol for safely approaching live circuits. Technicians will learn practical defensive techniques, such as the "one-hand rule" and the mandatory use of non-contact voltage testers to ensure a workspace is truly de-energized before beginning repairs.
  • Compressed Gas Safety
    • This module provides an overview of safety protocols for handling compressed gases commonly used by HVAC technicians, including nitrogen, oxygen, acetylene, and various refrigerants. It covers critical procedures for inspecting cylinders for damage, verifying pressure test dates, and adhering to strict storage and transportation guidelines to prevent accidents. Additionally, the module highlights specific hazards such as the risk of explosion when oxygen contacts petroleum and the potential for suffocation in unventilated areas when using inert gases like nitrogen.
