By the end of this course, you will be able to explain the core concepts behind Geometry Nodes, build procedural systems using points, instances, and transforms, interpret node-based workflows with confidence, and create your own Geometry Nodes setups in Blender. Guided by instructor Ken Mbesa, you'll learn Geometry Nodes through a unique visual framework called the Spaceship Docking System, a beginner-friendly approach that replaces confusion and memorization with clear, intuitive understanding. Rather than focusing on which nodes to connect, this course helps you understand why connections work. Through practical examples and visual metaphors, you'll explore position vectors, attributes, procedural thinking, and the underlying patterns that appear throughout Geometry Nodes. By learning these foundational principles, you'll gain the confidence to read, modify, and build node networks on your own. This course is designed for Blender users who are new to Geometry Nodes, as well as artists who have experimented with node-based workflows but want a deeper understanding of how the system works. To be successful in this course, you should be comfortable navigating Blender and have a basic understanding of the software's interface and 3D workspace. No prior experience with Geometry Nodes is required.

Syllabus

  • Getting Started with Geometry Nodes and Procedural Design
    • Begin your journey into procedural modeling with Geometry Nodes. In this module, you'll set up Blender, explore the Geometry Nodes interface, and learn the foundational concepts behind node-based workflows. You'll apply these concepts by creating a procedural mothership model, establishing the skills needed for more complex projects.
  • Expanding Procedural Systems with Modular Assets
    • Build on your foundational Geometry Nodes skills by creating modular procedural systems. You'll add docking ports, position fleets, create dynamic arrangements, and incorporate cargo containers into your scene. Along the way, you'll discover practical techniques that improve flexibility and efficiency when designing procedural assets.
  • Building, Organizing, and Deploying a Procedural Army
    • Complete the course by creating a procedural sentinel and refining your node organization practices. You'll learn how to structure complex node networks for easier editing and scalability before assembling a larger procedural army. This final module reinforces best practices that can be applied to future Geometry Nodes projects of any size.
