  • What is Healthcare Data Privacy?
    • In this module, you will learn why protecting patient information is essential in healthcare. You will explore data privacy as both a patient right and a shared responsibility. The module explains why healthcare information is sensitive and what can happen when privacy is compromised. You will learn how professionals in clinical, administrative, IT, and support roles play a part in safeguarding patient information. You will be introduced to key privacy terms such as protected health information. Through real-world scenarios, you will recognize common privacy risks in everyday healthcare workflows and understand your responsibility when accessing, using, or sharing patient information. By the end of this module, you will have a clear understanding of healthcare data privacy and shared responsibilities.
  • Legal and Ethical Foundations
    • In this module, you will learn how healthcare data privacy is shaped by laws and regulations that vary across regions and continue to evolve. You will be introduced to major healthcare privacy regulations, with a focus on U.S. and international frameworks and how they differ in scope when regulating patient and personal data. The module also explores the ethical principles behind these regulations, such as autonomy, trust, and justice. You will learn the difference between legal requirements and organizational best practices and understand your role in ensuring compliance. You will also learn about key data processing terms, such as data controller. By the end of this module, you will have a clear understanding of the healthcare privacy regulatory environment and your responsibilities within it.
  • Types of Patient Data and Privacy Risks
    • In this module, you will learn that not all patient information carries the same privacy risk or regulatory requirements. You will learn how to classify healthcare information by sensitivity level and recognize privacy risks. The module introduces key categories of patient information, including direct identifiers, clinical data, diagnostic data, biometric data, genomic data, and behavioral health information. You will examine how data sensitivity affects handling requirements and identify common privacy vulnerabilities in EHR systems, clinical workflows, and data sharing practices. You will practice assessing privacy risk and determining appropriate safeguards based on data type and context. By the end of this module, you will be able to classify patient information and identify privacy risks in healthcare scenarios.
  • Final Project, Exam, and Wrap-Up
    • In this module, you will bring together everything you have learned about healthcare data privacy through a comprehensive final project.
