Discover how to build a skills-based organization that keeps pace with a shifting workforce and a competitive market. In this course, you'll learn to define workplace skills, distinguish between I-shaped and T-shaped employees, and clarify the difference between upskilling and reskilling so you can choose the right strategy for your team. You'll then explore how to assess your organization's and employees' current skill levels, evaluate the technology available to support that process, and identify sources of bias that can skew your results. From there, you'll build the skills you've identified, whether by bringing in outside experts, tapping into talent already on your team, or creating development plans and a learning culture that fit into the normal flow of work. Finally, you'll examine how a skills strategy reshapes hiring, promotion, and organizational structure. By the end of this course, you'll be able to define the importance of a skill strategy and implement one that prepares your organization for the future.

Syllabus

Defining Upskilling and Reskilling
- The world of work is changing faster than ever, and the skills your team needs today may not be the ones they needed a few years ago. In this module you'll define what skills really are, tell upskilling and reskilling apart, and build the case for making a skill strategy a priority.
Assessing Your Team's Skills
- You can't close a skill gap you haven't measured, and bias and blind spots make measurement trickier than it looks. In this module you'll assess your organization's readiness, weigh multiple sources of data to gauge each person's competency, and put fair, practical checks in place before you roll out an assessment.
Developing Your Team's Skills
- Knowing where the gaps are is only useful if you can actually close them. In this module you'll bring in outside expertise, transfer the talent already sitting on your team, and connect individual skills into development pathways that keep people growing.
Making Organizational Changes
- New skills only pay off when the rest of the organization is set up to use them. In this module you'll turn your skill strategy into smarter hiring, fairer promotions, and an org structure built around the work that actually needs doing.
