This course is for legal, compliance, and business professionals who want to turn legal knowledge into practical action. You will begin by learning how to communicate legal risk to executives, lead with business impact, and offer compliant alternatives instead of a flat no. You will then learn how to convert dense statutes, such as the FCPA accounting provisions, into system-enforced controls and binary checklists. Finally, you will study how to design compliance training using scenarios, case studies, adult learning research, and risk-based tailoring, evaluate it with the Kirkpatrick framework, and build your own training segment.

Syllabus

  • Module 1: Communicating Legal Risk to the Business
    • You will learn how to communicate legal and compliance risk to executives by leading with business impact, offering compliant alternatives, and keeping the legal analysis in support. You will also learn how to pitch a pause on a high-risk deal without alienating business partners. In addition, you will learn how to turn dense statutes, such as the FCPA accounting provisions, into system-enforced controls and simple yes-or-no checklists that business teams can follow in their daily tools.
  • Module 2: Designing Compliance Training That Changes Behavior
    • You will learn why scenario-based training and the case method build judgment better than rule recitation, and how adult learning research should shape training design. You will also learn how to tailor training to risk using the DOJ's guidance, why delivery must be consistent and keep its promises, and why training alone cannot change culture without leadership signals. In addition, you will learn how to evaluate training with the four-level Kirkpatrick framework and how to design your own short training segment using a five-step process.
