Ready to transition from theory to practice in patient-centered care? This intermediate-level course is designed for clinical educators, healthcare professionals, and curriculum developers who want to master the art of simulation-based training. You will learn to build and facilitate powerful learning experiences that equip clinicians with the skills to navigate complex ethical decisions and uphold patient autonomy. Through a hands-on, structured approach, you will design a branching digital case study that challenges learners to make decisions with real consequences in a safe, simulated environment. You will also learn to structure and lead interactive role-playing scenarios that build confidence and competence in difficult patient conversations. The course culminates in mastering a structured feedback model, ensuring that every simulation becomes a lasting learning opportunity. By the end, you will not just understand the principles of patient autonomy—you will have a complete "Simulation Starter Kit" to create and lead impactful training that empowers clinicians and transforms patient outcomes.

Syllabus

  • Designing Digital Case Studies for Patient Autonomy
    • In this module, you will learn the art and science behind creating compelling, self-paced branching case studies. We will deconstruct what makes a scenario realistic and ethically challenging, and you will learn how to script choices and consequences that lead to powerful, evidence-based learning moments.
  • Facilitating Live Role-Play Scenarios
    • This module shifts focus from digital design to live facilitation. You will learn how to structure and manage an interactive role-playing session, create a safe space for participants to practice, and guide them through challenging patient-centered communication scenarios effectively.
  • Delivering Actionable Feedback
    • A great simulation is powered by great feedback. In this final instructional module, you will learn how to observe a performance, identify key behaviors, and lead a structured debrief session that provides concrete, actionable insights to help participants improve.
