This course provides a foundational understanding of core data concepts and how they are implemented using Microsoft Azure data services. Through structured modules, learners will explore relational and non-relational data models, data storage solutions, database management systems, and the process of integrating, analyzing, and visualizing data using Azure’s modern cloud ecosystem. Participants will gain practical experience through demonstrations and quizzes that reinforce concepts such as data representation, normalization, structured query language (SQL), Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI. By the end of this course, learners will be prepared to identify appropriate data solutions for various business scenarios, describe capabilities of Azure data services, and confidently pursue the Microsoft DP-900 certification exam.

Syllabus

  • Introduction to Data Fundamentals and Core Concepts
    • This module introduces learners to foundational data concepts crucial for understanding how data is represented, stored, processed, and structured within modern cloud environments, particularly in the context of Microsoft Azure. It lays the groundwork by exploring types of data, data storage options, and common data workloads. It also introduces the principles of relational databases, including the importance of normalization and the application of structured data systems. The module is ideal for beginners seeking to build a conceptual understanding of core data operations that underpin database technologies and data-driven solutions.
  • Working with Relational Databases in Azure
    • This module explores how relational databases operate within the Microsoft Azure environment. Learners will discover how to write basic SQL queries, build reusable database components like views and stored procedures, and optimize performance through indexing. The module also introduces key relational database options offered by Azure, including deployment models (IaaS and PaaS), provisioning processes, security configurations such as firewall rules, and query tools like the built-in query editor. By the end, learners will understand both the conceptual and practical aspects of working with Azure-hosted relational databases.
  • NoSQL and Non-Relational Data in Azure
    • This module introduces learners to the fundamentals of non-relational databases and how they are implemented using Azure Cosmos DB. It covers the variety of NoSQL models including document, key-value, graph, and column-family, helping learners choose the right data structure for specific application needs. The module also guides learners through the capabilities of Azure Cosmos DB such as API support, data creation, querying, geo-replication, and security. By the end of this module, learners will understand the architecture and practical management of non-relational data solutions in Azure.
  • Data Integration, Analytics, and Visualization
    • This module introduces the core concepts of data integration, modern analytics, and data visualization within Microsoft Azure. Learners explore how data is processed and transformed through Azure Data Factory, stored in modern data warehouses, and visualized using tools such as Power BI. The module emphasizes the value of transforming raw data into actionable insights through automated pipelines and business intelligence dashboards, preparing learners to implement end-to-end data solutions in the Azure ecosystem.
