This course helps you balance personal well-being and digital life for improved mental, physical, and professional health. From smartphones to wearable tech, digital tools shape how we live, work, and interact. But they can also contribute to stress, distraction, and burnout if used unconsciously. In this self-paced course led by Dr. Nicholas Proferes of ASU’s School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, you’ll learn how to assess and improve your relationship with digital tools. Through guided reflection and hands-on strategies, you’ll explore how to use technology in ways that support, rather than undermine, your well-being.

Syllabus

  • Evaluating personal digital use
    • This module focuses on understanding and improving your personal relationship with digital tools. You will explore the underlying causes of your digital habits, identify resources to foster a healthier interaction, and practice solutions to manage your technology use more effectively. By the end of this module, you will have a clearer picture of your digital well-being and actionable strategies to enhance it.
  • Evaluating professional digital use
    • In this module, you will learn to critically evaluate your professional digital habits and identify areas for improvement. We will cover the causes and resources associated with professional digital use, explore strategies to enhance your digital work patterns, and introduce techniques like the Pomodoro method to boost productivity and well-being in your professional life. This module aims to equip you with the tools to create a more efficient and balanced digital work environment.
  • Looking at your health digitally
    • This module explores the intersection of digital tools and your overall health. You will learn how digital tools can influence your well-being, discover ways to leverage technology to build healthy habits, and understand the importance of incorporating breaks into your digital routine. The goal is to empower you to use digital tools as allies in maintaining and improving your physical and mental health.
  • Course conclusion
    • This concluding module provides an opportunity to reflect on your learning journey throughout the course. You will be invited to provide valuable feedback through a survey, helping to shape the future of our courses. Finally, you will receive confirmation of your course completion, acknowledging your dedication to personal and professional growth in managing digital tools and well-being.
