Overview

In this course, you will focus on implementing data governance, security controls, and real-time analytics capabilities in Microsoft Fabric. You will set up Microsoft Purview for data cataloging and lineage, configure security with Microsoft Entra ID, and develop event-driven data solutions. The course also covers compliance readiness, monitoring, and advanced data mirroring techniques, providing hands-on experience with EventStreams, Data Activator, and Azure Stream Analytics. Syllabus

Event-driven data processing

Master the fundamentals of real-time data processing in Microsoft Fabric through hands-on implementation of streaming architectures. You'll set up EventStreams for high-throughput data ingestion, configure Data Activator to automatically respond to critical business events, and process streaming data using Azure Stream Analytics. Through guided demonstrations and practical exercises, you'll develop the skills to implement end-to-end event-driven solutions that enable your organization to respond immediately to changing business conditions, from real-time sensor monitoring to instant customer engagement triggers based on behavior patterns.

Data mirroring and replication

Bridge the gap between operational systems and analytics by implementing near real-time data mirroring into Microsoft Fabric. You'll design efficient mirroring architectures, configure data replication from SQL Server and Cosmos DB, and develop analytics solutions on continuously updated operational data. Through architectural design exercises and hands-on configuration labs, you'll learn how to maintain analytical capabilities on fresh operational data without impacting source system performance. This module equips you with the skills to implement hybrid data architectures that combine the strengths of transactional and analytical systems for timely business insights.

Microsoft Purview for data governance

Establish comprehensive data governance using Microsoft Purview's powerful cataloging and classification capabilities. You'll implement an enterprise data catalog, configure automated data classification with sensitivity labels, and set up scanning processes to continuously discover and categorize data assets across your organization. Through hands-on exercises with Purview's interface and governance tools, you'll gain practical experience making data discoverable, protected, and compliant. This module provides the foundation for building a governed data environment where users can easily find, understand, and appropriately use data assets across the enterprise.

Data lineage and compliance

Enhance your data governance capabilities by visualizing data flow, establishing ownership models, and mapping regulatory requirements to specific controls. You'll explore end-to-end data lineage to trace information from source to consumption, define domain ownership structures with clear stewardship responsibilities, and develop comprehensive business glossaries to ensure consistent terminology. Through practical exercises mapping compliance requirements to Microsoft controls, you'll learn to demonstrate regulatory adherence while maintaining data utility. This module equips you with advanced governance techniques that build trust in your data assets while satisfying complex compliance obligations.

Security and monitoring

Implement robust security controls and comprehensive monitoring across your Microsoft Fabric environment. You'll configure enterprise identity integration with Microsoft Entra ID, implement row-level security in Warehouse and Power BI, use object-level security in Power BI to hide columns and tables, restrict Warehouse columns via secure views and permissions, and control Lakehouse access via item permissions (noting no RLS/OLS at storage level). You'll also establish workspace-level policies and set up operational monitoring dashboards. Through hands-on security configuration and monitoring implementation, you'll develop the skills to protect sensitive data while maintaining appropriate access and visibility into system health.
