A creative venture requires essential entrepreneurial skills: having the knowledge and abilities needed to face the challenges of creating and sustaining a business is crucial. That’s why, in this 3-module course, you will explore specific methodologies for developing entrepreneurial skills, understand key concepts for managing the finances of a venture, identify platforms and sources of funding for creative businesses, among other topics. Discover the landscape of creative ventures in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the challenges entrepreneurs have faced, how they’ve overcome them, and how they’ve seized the opportunities that came their way.

Syllabus

Module 1: Challenges of Creative Entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean

In this module, we will explore what the creative economy is. You will learn about creative entrepreneurs in the region — their perceptions, challenges, and successes. This module includes a self-assessment for those who wish to develop their own venture. Do you have what it takes to be a creative entrepreneur?

Module 2: Overcoming Challenges with Entrepreneurial Skill

A successful creative venture requires essential entrepreneurial skills. In this module, we will learn about the three fundamental skills needed to be an entrepreneur. We will also explore two methodologies — Lean Startup and Design Thinking — to better understand which skills should be developed, from an entrepreneurial perspective, to face the new challenges of the 21st century.

Module 3: Financing for Creative Ventures

Finances can be an intimidating topic for creatives, but it doesn’t have to be that way: managing your finances puts you in control of your venture and allows you to make key decisions regarding pricing, production costs, marketing, and much more. In this lesson, we’ll review some key concepts for business financial management, as well as the aspects to consider when seeking funding. In particular, we will cover: Essential financial terms. Sources of financing. Tips for applying for funding or grants. Financing platforms for entrepreneurs.
