Overview

Launching a creative enterprise calls for fundamental entrepreneurial skills: it is essential to possess the knowledge and expertise required to meet the challenges of creating and keeping a business viable.

Thus, throughout this 3-module course, you will learn about specific methodologies to strengthen entrepreneurial abilities, review key financial management concepts for a business, and discover platforms and funding options for creative enterprises, among other topics.

Discover the landscape of creative enterprises across Latin America and the Caribbean, the obstacles entrepreneurs faced, the ways they have overcome them, and the opportunities they have seized.

The translation of this course into English was made possible thanks to funding from the Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility , a private sector development program jointly funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United Kingdom Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), and the Government of Canada.

This is a self-paced course , meaning you can register at any time, even if the course has been open for a while.

Syllabus

Module 1: Challenges of Creative Entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean

In this module, we will explore together the concept of the creative economy. You will get to know what creative entrepreneurs in the region are like, how they think, the obstacles they face, and the successes they have achieved. It also offers the concept of the creative economy together to launch their own business. Do you have what it takes to be a creative entrepreneur?

Module 2: Overcoming Challenges with Entrepreneurial Skill

A thriving creative enterprise requires fundamental entrepreneurial competencies. In this module, we will identify the three core skills needed to be an entrepreneur. We will also introduce two methodologies, Lean Startup and Design Thinking, to understand from an entrepreneurial perspective the skills necessary to address the challenges of the 21st century.

Module 3: Financing for Creative Ventures

Finance can be an intimidating topic for creative professionals, but it does not have to be cover key concepts in business finance and discuss considerations for securing: managing your finances helps you take control of your enterprise and allows you to make critical decisions regarding pricing, production costs, advertising, and much more. In this lesson, we will go over key concepts in business finance and considerations for seeking financing. Specifically, we will address: Key financial terminology, Sources of funding, Advice for requesting financing or grants and Entrepreneurial financing platforms
