Discover how cells function as the fundamental unit of life by exploring their most critical systems. This course examines how membranes create a distinct internal environment, how cells generate and use energy, and how signaling molecules and receptors enable cellular communication. By the end of this course, you will be able to explain how these components work together to allow a cell to produce energy, interact with its environment, and communicate with other cells.

Syllabus

  • Cell Structure and Function
    • Once we understand the biomolecules that make up the cell, we will put them together to see how they are arranged in cells to understand this fundamental unit of life in this course. We’ll see how membranes separate the cell from the outside world and how cells use membrane proteins to interact with the world. We’ll see how energy is produced and used in cells. Finally, we’ll discuss the signaling molecules and receptors that allow cells to talk to each other.
