Addresses the question of how to understand and specify the flow of work responsibility and movement of information throughout the enterprise. For businesses to maximize the benefits of technology, they must transform their ad-hoc and often poorly defined ways of doing things to formal business processes. Analyzes the specification and implementation of complex information systems that integrate well into core business operations. Offers students an opportunity to learn how to use agile process specification techniques, dynamic process execution, and real-time measurement and reporting to support continuous business improvement and change. Syllabus

  • Thriving in the Digital Age
    • In this module, Thriving in the Digital Age, we'll discover today's business landscape, where organizations grapple with challenges that may hinder their competitiveness. Technological advancements, changing consumer preferences, and unpredictable market dynamics create an environment where the only constant is change. Legacy systems and organizational structures can impede an organization's ability to adjust accordingly. This inability to adapt, leverage insights from data, and adopt proactive-thinking culture can stifle progress within organizations. The only clear path forward is to adapt to this evolving terrain. Adapting to new technologies (i.e., AI), developing a culture of innovation, and encouraging a mindset open to continuous improvement are vital for organizations to stay competitive.
  • Business Process Mapping in the Digital Age
    • In this module, Business Process Mapping in the Digital Age, we will learn about business process mapping and how it offers numerous benefits to improve efficiency and lead to greater productivity. Business process mapping is the cornerstone of understanding and improving organizational workflows. It involves identifying, analyzing, and visualizing processes to streamline operations.
  • Business Analysis Framework
    • In this module, Business Analysis Framework, you will learn about business analysis, business models, and how to gather and prioritize requirements. You will learn about the series of plans that help document and set business expectations, which contribute to a business’s success. You will learn what goes into a plan as well as how to draft an effective one. We will also explore the role of the business analyst and how understanding such a role can improve your work as an engineer.
  • Stakeholder Analysis
    • In this module, Stakeholder Analysis, we will look into strategies for keeping our stakeholders engaged. Through activities such as stakeholder analysis, mapping, and engagement, you will learn how to take a strategic approach to identify, understand, and involve stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Process Mapping Methodologies and Approaches
    • In this module, Process Mapping Methodologies and Approaches, our focus is on unraveling the intricacies of process mapping. We will explore various methodologies and techniques crucial for understanding and optimizing business processes. In particular, we will begin by gaining insights into the diverse techniques employed in process mapping. You will also dive into the world of visual representation with a focus on key tools like flowcharts, process diagrams, swimlane diagrams, and value stream mapping.
  • Process Analysis
    • Welcome to this module, Process Analysis, where we will delve into the essential skills of identifying process inefficiencies and bottlenecks in team dynamics and business operations. This module is designed to provide you with practical knowledge and techniques to conduct effective root cause analysis on real-world business problems. We will also explore the critical role of engineers in enhancing business efficiencies through systematic analysis and problem-solving.
  • Design Thinking
    • In this module, Design Thinking, our journey begins with an in-depth exploration of the design thinking process, which is a structured framework used by designers and innovators worldwide. We will dissect each component of this process, delving into its practical applications and theoretical underpinnings. You'll learn about the five stages of design thinking: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Each stage plays a crucial role in understanding and solving real-world problems in a user-centric manner. By comprehending these stages, you'll be equipped to apply design thinking methodologies in various contexts, from product development to service enhancement.
