Most organizations have a diversity statement. Far fewer have a diversity practice. The gap between the two is where the work of this course sits, namely the assessment, the strategy, the hiring and development mechanics, the measurement, and the everyday leadership behaviors that decide whether an intention becomes a change anybody can observe. Across four thematic modules and eight focused lessons, you will start with the fundamentals, covering what diversity, equity, and inclusion each mean and why they are not interchangeable, the demographic trends reshaping the workforce, the competencies leaders now need, the business case, and the role of a chief diversity officer. You will then assess an organization's culture, expose the common structural barriers, and position the work as a strategic priority rather than a programme, before turning to recruitment. From there you will cover implementation, namely developing, coaching, promoting, and retaining diverse talent, leading diverse teams, tracking and reporting progress, and embedding the work in other functions. The course closes on sustaining it, through councils and employee resource groups, implicit bias and its workplace effects, inclusive leadership, cultural competence, and a culture of belonging. Each lesson opens with two five-minute topic videos followed immediately by applied practice, and every module closes with a hands-on lab, a roleplay, a discussion prompt, and a graded assessment, so nothing stays theoretical for long. Whether you lead a function, sit in HR, chair a council, or manage a team of people whose experience of the organization differs from your own, this course gives you the assessments, frameworks, and worked scenarios that turn stated commitment into operational practice. By the end, you will be able to assess where an organization actually stands, identify the barriers that matter most, and design measurable next steps.

Syllabus

  • Introduction to the Entire Course
    • Provides a starting-point assessment that helps learners understand their current readiness across the DEI capabilities developed throughout the course. It evaluates understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, culture assessment and barrier analysis, inclusive recruitment and retention, metrics and reporting, councils, bias, and inclusive leadership. Results generate a personalized readiness profile and recommended learning path without restricting access to any module.
  • Fundamentals, Trends, and the Case for Action
    • Establishes the foundations of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the reasoning behind organizational action. Learners distinguish diversity, equity, and inclusion, examine demographic trends reshaping the workforce, and explore the competencies leaders need to manage across differences. The module also covers building the organizational case for action and understanding the role, authority, budget, and access required for a dedicated DEI officer to succeed.
  • Assessing the Organization and Setting Strategy
    • Develops the ability to assess organizational culture, identify structural barriers, and turn findings into a practical strategy. Learners examine evidence beyond engagement surveys, analyze barriers within hiring, promotion, and access to opportunities, and position DEI as a strategic priority with clear ownership, budget, and measures. The module also explores inclusive recruitment practices, including sourcing, job criteria, structured interviewing, and attracting wider talent pools.
  • Implementing the Work Across the Organization
    • Focuses on putting DEI principles into everyday organizational practice. Learners explore developing, coaching, sponsoring, promoting, and retaining diverse talent and examine the conditions that help diverse teams perform effectively. The module also covers tracking and reporting meaningful progress through representation, progression, retention, and experience measures, while embedding DEI practices across functions so they do not depend on a single team or leader.
  • Sustaining Inclusion, Bias Awareness, and Belonging
    • Focuses on the structures and leadership behaviors needed to sustain inclusion over time. Learners explore how to establish effective councils and employee resource groups, understand implicit bias and its workplace effects, and move from awareness toward inclusive leadership practices. The module also develops cultural competence and examines how organizations can cultivate and measure inclusion, equity, and belonging through the experiences reported by employees.
  • Course Wrap-Up and Next Steps
    • Provides practical reference and application resources that help learners consolidate and apply the DEI capabilities developed throughout the course. Resources reinforce core definitions, leadership competencies, culture assessment, structural barrier analysis, recruitment and retention practices, metrics, councils and resource groups, bias awareness, and inclusive leadership behaviors. The section also includes a final project in which learners assess a real organization or function, identify key barriers, develop a strategy and implementation approach, and create sustaining structures and measurable indicators of progress.
