A CI/CD pipeline tells you how a release moves through your systems. It doesn't tell you who owns it. This course teaches product managers, DevOps engineers, and technology leads to manage the ITIL 5 Product and Service Lifecycle as a unified, DevOps-aligned discipline — not a compliance layer bolted on top of the pipeline you already run.
You'll map the ITIL 5 eight-stage lifecycle (Discover through Support) onto an existing CI/CD pipeline and build a RACI chart that names an owner at every handoff. You'll develop stage-entry and stage-exit criteria for a digital service that are specific and governance-aligned without recreating a waterfall gate at every stage. And you'll evaluate your organization's release ceremonies — sprint demos, CAB meetings, post-release reviews — against what the ITIL 5 lifecycle actually requires, turning the gaps you find into prioritized, defensible recommendations.
Through a realistic pipeline-mapping session, a governance-ready criteria-drafting exercise, and a capstone presentation to a skeptical governance stakeholder, you'll build skills you can apply to your own team's pipeline immediately. Designed for technology product management and DevOps-aligned roles (CB3). Beginner (Foundation) level; no prior ITIL certification required.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Map the ITIL 5 eight-stage lifecycle onto an existing DevOps pipeline to clarify ownership and handoff points between product and service teams.
- Develop stage-entry and stage-exit criteria for a digital service that align with ITIL 5 lifecycle principles and organizational governance standards.
- Evaluate current release management ceremonies against ITIL 5 lifecycle requirements to recommend process improvements.
No prior ITIL certification required. This course assumes working familiarity with a CI/CD pipeline and a release process, and is written for CB3 Managerial Professionals in Technology Product Management — product leads, engineering managers, and technical program managers who own or oversee a digital product's delivery pipeline and are accountable for outcomes across teams, not just individual tasks. Access to the provided lifecycle-to-pipeline RACI template, stage-entry/exit criteria checklist template, and ceremony evaluation worksheet is needed for the applied activities.
