Syllabus

  • How Can AI Transform Something?
    • Who doesn’t want faster, better, cheaper government procurement? Recent trends have created a need to transform government procurement. Yet, words like “transformation” and “disruption” are thrown around liberally these days, but can AI really transform anything? This week will pair modern research with historical examples to show not just that AI can transform industries, but the trajectory for how that transformation takes place.
  • How AI Can Improve Your Work
    • AI has tremendous potential to improve both the efficiency and effectiveness of work. But how it will specifically impact workers in government procurement will depend both on what they do each day and their goals in adopting AI.
  • How AI can Improve your Program
    • As we increase the scope of improvement from the work of one individual to the work of a program or whole agency, the difficulty similarly increases. In fact, key players are likely to even disagree on what “improvement” means. But if we can navigate these challenges, there are significant opportunities for AI to improve the ultimate effectiveness of procurement for that organization.
  • Finding a Solution That Works
    • The current record of efforts to modernize government procurement is spotty at best. To overcome this, changes are needed not just to what players in procurement do, but to how they work together as well. While many of these changes will require new laws and new ideas, AI can help reshape incentives to support more systemic change in government procurement.
  • Not Settling for "Done", but for Reaching Scale
    • Proofs of concept can be valuable, but they rarely move the needle for the public. Government leaders need to think about scaling from the start if they are to achieve the benefits that AI promises. This week will give learners a deeper understanding of the unique barriers to scaling that government organizations face, as well as techniques to make sure they have the right capabilities needed to scale.
