This course focuses on Agile and hybrid approaches within the Process domain and the Business Environment domain. Learners will explore the Agile mindset, Scrum and Kanban frameworks, and adaptive planning. You will also examine how projects align with organizational strategy, governance, compliance requirements, and sustainability considerations. You will learn when and how to tailor the 40 non-prescriptive processes, manage value-driven backlogs, and apply adaptive planning and forecasting techniques. The course also explores governance as the “strategic glue,” the output-outcome-benefit chain, organizational change management, and benefits realization. Through healthcare-based scenarios, interactive activities, practice exercises, and a hands-on final project, you will build the situational judgment needed to apply Agile, hybrid, and Business Environment concepts to healthcare project decisions and strengthen your preparation for the PMP® exam.

Syllabus

  • Agile Foundations and Agile Project Management
    • In this module, you will build the Agile mindset that underpins the PMP® exam's Agile and hybrid content. You will explore how Agile principles support value-driven delivery and how Scrum and Kanban help teams address the five PMBOK® 8 Focus Areas through iterative delivery. Using healthcare examples, from clinical workflow redesigns to health IT initiatives, you will examine Agile team roles, servant leadership, and the practices that foster an empowered team culture. You will then practice managing a value-driven backlog and interpreting adaptive metrics such as velocity, burndown charts, and cycle time to support continuous improvement. By the end of this module, you will be able to explain Agile frameworks and apply Agile team and backlog management practices to healthcare project scenarios.
  • Hybrid Project Management and Adaptive Approaches
    • In this module, you will move from pure agile practice into hybrid project management, one of the most heavily tested areas of the PMP® exam. You will examine how governance aligns hybrid delivery with organizational strategy and practice deciding which components of a project should be managed adaptively and which should follow a structured, milestone-based track, using the same governance process that later handles in-flight change. You will apply adaptive planning techniques, including rolling wave planning, and get hands-on practice tailoring the 40 non-prescriptive processes in PMBOK® 8's reintroduced process set to a healthcare project's constraints. The module closes by examining how hybrid teams scale and manage change across multiple stakeholder groups. By the end of this module, you will be able to decide on and tailor a hybrid approach for a healthcare project scenario.
  • Business Environment, Governance, and Organizational Strategy
    • In this module, you will deep-dive into the Business Environment domain, which accounts for a significant share of the PMP® exam. You will examine how projects align with organizational strategy and deliver benefits, how the Governance Performance Domain acts as the “strategic glue” connecting strategy to delivery, and how PMBOK® 8's new customer-centric PMO model, introduced in Appendix X2, supports that governance. Using healthcare examples, you will apply compliance requirements such as HIPAA and Joint Commission standards, and sustainability (ESG) considerations, as project constraints. You will also examine how project leaders support organizational change and assess project success using the output-outcome-benefit chain. By the end of this module, you will be able to evaluate a healthcare project's strategic alignment, compliance posture, and success against benefits realization.
  • Final Project, Exam, and Course Wrap-Up
    • In this final module, you will apply your learning through a final project that asks you to recommend and justify a development approach and governance plan for a healthcare initiative, drawing on the agile, hybrid, and business environment concepts covered in this course. The module includes a course glossary to reinforce key terminology and concepts. You will also attempt a final exam to assess your overall mastery of the concepts learned in this course. The course concludes with a wrap-up that summarizes key takeaways and previews Course 3: PMP® Exam Strategy and Exam Practice.
