To meet the demands of individuals and organizations for flexible, reusable, and easily modified visual content, Adobe Systems has created a cadre of applications that collectively provide a scalable, end-to-end solution for nearly every type of visual design project one can contemplate. Called Creative Cloud®, the collection of applications perform specialized design tasks while interoperating among each other to deliver content. This course focuses on Adobe® Illustrator® CC, the component within Creative Cloud used to create "drawn" graphics, while enabling its users to integrate content from other domains (such as photo-oriented graphics and animation, which belong to Adobe® Photoshop® and other applications). With Illustrator's many easily used tools, you will discover that not only can you unlock the same creative impulses you've always had as you've picked up a pencil to sketch out an idea, but also capture those multiple ideas and "what ifs" during the creative process in ways that you never imagined. And for those of you who are just embarking on building your creative skills, you will be surprised at "how good" your work will appear, even at the outset of your exploration of the world of graphic design. This course is a great component of your preparation for the Adobe Certified Professional in Graphic Design & Illustration Using Adobe Illustrator exam. This course is intended for designers, publishers, pre-press professionals, marketing communications professionals, or people switching to a design job or taking on design responsibilities and who need to use Illustrator to create illustrations, logos, advertisements, or other graphic documents. It is also useful for anyone interested in working toward the Adobe Certified Professional Graphic Design and Illustration Using Adobe Illustrator exam certification. In this course, you will: identify the components and capabilities of Illustrator, create basic shapes, create custom paths, create graphics that contain custom text, customize objects, customize basic shapes, and prepare documents for deployment. This course requires that you have Adobe Illustrator installed on a Windows PC. The course setup instructions provided in the first module of the course go into more detail about the hardware and software requirements.

Syllabus

  • Introducing Illustrator
    • Welcome to the world of Adobe® Illustrator®, one of the most powerful tools for creating, editing, and deploying drawn digital graphics!
  • Creating Documents Containing Basic Shapes
    • You've developed some skill moving around the Adobe® Illustrator® user interface and modifying user environment settings, and you've evaluated some graphical content, but a big milestone is still ahead: drawing a multi-part graphic.
  • Creating Documents Containing Customized Paths
    • As an artist, you know that the pen is a mighty tool. You can use it in ways that freely express your intentions, but does that same freedom exist in the world of digital vector graphic development? The Pen tool works much like the real thing, and in many respects, it is an advance over manual drawing tools. In this lesson, you will learn how to draw custom paths with the Pen tool.
  • Creating Graphics Containing Customized Text
    • Not only is Adobe® Illustrator® a powerful tool for creating vector graphics, but it is also effective in handling text in a variety of engaging, artful ways. In truth, much of what graphic designers do depends upon the interplay of the "wordlessness" of art and the words on the page to create compelling messages for an intended audience. In this lesson, you will create graphics that contain custom text.
  • Customizing Objects
    • The days of Henry Ford's dictum of, "They can have any color car, as long as it's black," are over. Everything (especially graphic design) must possess the aura of special customization, even if it is mass produced. Adobe® Illustrator® has many tools that will enable you to improve the appearance of, and leverage, existing graphical content to put it in the best possible light. In this lesson, you will customize objects.
  • Customizing Basic Shapes
    • You have worked with basic shapes but don't see much "bang for the buck" so far in terms of formatting them. Adobe® Illustrator® has many formatting tools that operate on basic shapes so that you can create a multitude of beautiful, engaging designs from simple geometric objects. In this lesson, you will customize basic shapes.
  • Preparing Documents for Deployment
    • Once you've done the creative work, the practical part is ahead of you: where the content will go and how it will be used. Adobe® Illustrator® has a nice array of tools you can use to optimize the content you create in most delivery modalities, on and off the Internet. In this lesson, you will prepare documents for deployment.
  • Completing the Course
    • You'll wrap things up and then validate what you've learned in this course by taking an assessment.
