Project Management II: Execution, Controlling & Closing (Live Online)

via CourseHorse

Overview

Take your project management expertise to the next level with this comprehensive intermediate/advanced course. Explore sophisticated concepts including task analysis, critical path methodology, detailed planning, project timelines, and continuous monitoring strategies.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll examine the five phases of project management in depth, investigating the challenges and complexities inherent to each stage. You'll develop the essential competencies for executing, controlling, and closing projects with particular emphasis on budgeting strategies and risk management. This engaging, interactive workshop encourages active participation throughout. You'll receive a practical workbook containing both essential knowledge and numerous exercises to complete during class.

By course completion, you'll understand how to actively manage projects throughout their execution phases. You may take this course independently or combine it with Project Management: Initiation and Planning for comprehensive project management knowledge.

Course Overview:

The course begins by examining the project team more closely. What characteristics define a high-performing team? How should talent be cultivated? What qualities should you seek in team members? These questions and others are explored through collaborative group discussions and facilitated brainstorming.

The course then shifts toward quantitative analysis as you transition to the execution phase. You'll analyze brief project case studies and work through the process of calculating actual costs and measuring work performance. This culminates in cost performance analysis and cost completion estimation.

Next, you'll address resource management situations where project resources face overallocation or constraints. You'll construct appropriate tables and charts to visualize and resolve these challenges.

Risk management is organized into four components: identification, assessment, planning, and monitoring. Working in teams, you'll examine sample projects and evaluate potential risks throughout their lifecycle.

You'll also determine what meetings should occur, which reports to create and distribute, and what communication plans are needed. Practice creating efficient project meeting agendas, writing progress reports, and developing comprehensive communication strategies.

The closing phase addresses project conclusion activities, including final payment collection, team recognition, and documentation archiving. You'll create a sample post-project evaluation.

This one-day workshop concludes with an overview of project management software tools, professional associations, and industry certifications.
