Do you have a vision for your own clothing brand but don't know where to begin? This practical course offers creative students a comprehensive foundation in fashion entrepreneurship. The course guides you from initial design concepts through business planning, sample production, and factory collaboration to launch your successful clothing brand.
What You Will Learn:
- Design a complete capsule collection and develop a cohesive clothing line
- Create mood boards and conduct thorough collection research
- Select appropriate fabrics for garments and master fabric purchasing fundamentals
- Collaborate with factories to produce samples and identify production resources
- Understand sizing standards and learn grading techniques for your fashion line
- Develop comprehensive sales and marketing strategies
- Apply merchandising mathematics and pricing principles
- Establish website infrastructure and implement e-commerce sales channels
Project Focus: You will design and produce a mini collection consisting of one to two looks, understanding all concepts required to manufacture and produce your clothing line with a factory, and effectively market and sell your fashion collection. Note that fashion illustration techniques are not covered in this course. Refer to our dedicated Fashion Illustration course if you need instruction in sketching techniques.
Course Duration: 8 hours total. Class option: 2 hours once per week for 4 weeks.
Cost: $400
Materials and Supplies: Supplies will be discussed during the first class session, and no supplies are required for the initial meeting. Fabric and other collection materials will be provided by students, as will any costs associated with factory sample production and pattern development. Alternatively, if you already possess sewing skills, you may produce your own patterns and samples outside of class.
Prerequisites: None required. This course welcomes students at all experience levels.
