Women’s Leadership Foundations is a research-informed introductory course designed to support thoughtful reflection on how leadership develops and how it is shaped by experience, context, and relationships.
Rather than presenting leadership as a fixed set of traits or behaviours, the course invites you to explore leadership as a dynamic practice that evolves over time. Drawing on women’s leadership research, it examines common patterns, enablers, and challenges women encounter as they lead within organisations.
The course places particular emphasis on reflection as a core leadership practice. Through guided prompts and applied activities, you will be encouraged to make sense of your own experiences, identify emerging themes in your leadership journey, and consider how self-awareness, self-management, and self-development interact over time.
You will also be introduced to research-informed perspectives on leadership styles, strengths, feedback, and development relationships, helping you think more intentionally about how you lead and how you continue to grow.
As a practical takeaway, you will develop a short-term leadership growth plan focused on a clear, actionable next step you can begin applying immediately. This plan is designed to translate reflection into intentional practice, providing a realistic starting point for continued leadership development.
This course is designed as a foundational learning experience rather than a comprehensive programme. It offers space to pause, reflect, and build insight, while signalling pathways for deeper exploration.
Learners who wish to extend their learning can progress to the full Oxford Women’s Leadership Development Programme, which builds on these foundations through extended content, structured feedback, and facilitated peer learning.
