Learners will discover how to stream Amazon CloudWatch metrics to self-hosted OpenTelemetry collectors running inside a VPC using an AWS Lambda transformation function. The course covers common observability challenges -- such as high licensing costs, vendor lock-in, and fragmented monitoring tools -- and shows how combining CloudWatch Metric Streams with OpenTelemetry collectors can reduce expenses while achieving sub-minute latency for real-time alerting. Participants will learn a practical architecture for bridging CloudWatch Metric Streams with internal HTTP endpoints that are not publicly accessible.
