This course equips participants with the skills to use AWS Transform for mainframe modernization. Learn to prepare mainframe assets (COBOL, JCL, CICS, BMS, DB2, VSAM) in Amazon S3, launch modernization jobs via the web experience, and interpret analysis dashboards. You will learn to generate functional documentation, extraction of business rules, and experience refactoring COBOL and JCL to Java and Groovy while maintaining functional equivalence, and learn to apply Reforge for improved code readability and maintainability.
Course objectives
- Explain the agent‑orchestrated workflow AWS Transform employs to migrate mainframe workloads.
- Prepare mainframe assets (COBOL, JCL, CICS, BMS, DB2, VSAM) in Amazon S3 for analysis.
- Launch & configure a comprehensive modernization job from the web console.
- Interpret analysis dashboards (file metrics, dependencies, gaps, duplicates).
- Generate & review functional documentation and extracted business rules.
- Decompose a monolith into logical domains and plan migration waves.
- Refactor COBOL and JCL to object-oriented languages like Java and Groovy while maintaining functional equivalence in the modernized code.
