Design intelligent, responsive gameplay experiences in Unreal Engine by building AI-driven gameplay systems and polished user interfaces using Blueprint scripting. In this course, you'll learn how to create enemy AI with navigation meshes, behavior trees, blackboards, and AI controllers, enabling characters to patrol, make decisions, react to players, and adapt to changing gameplay conditions. As you progress, you'll implement AI sensing, health systems, sound-based reactions, enemy spawning, and combat feedback to create more immersive player experiences. You'll also develop core gameplay systems, including save and load functionality, dynamic difficulty progression, pause menus, lose screens, reset controls, and interface publishing for a complete gameplay flow. Designed for learners who want to strengthen their Unreal Engine game development skills, this course combines AI logic, Blueprint scripting, gameplay systems, and UI implementation into a structured learning path. Through hands-on development and iterative testing, you'll gain practical experience building scalable AI behaviors and responsive game state systems. By the end of the course, you'll be able to design, develop, test, and deploy AI-driven gameplay mechanics and user interface systems that support engaging action-based game experiences in Unreal Engine.

Syllabus

  • AI Setup and Navigation
    • In this foundational module, learners are introduced to the core principles of implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Unreal Engine environment. The focus lies on transitioning from static gameplay elements to dynamic AI-driven characters that interact intelligently with their surroundings. Students will learn how to prepare the game level for AI integration, create navigable paths using navigation meshes, and initiate behavior control through behavior trees, AI controllers, and blackboards. This module sets the groundwork for developing responsive, decision-making enemy characters capable of adapting to in-game events and player actions.
  • Enemy AI and Logic Flow
    • This module focuses on developing intelligent enemy behavior using Unreal Engine’s AI tools and visual scripting systems. Learners will design and implement patrol systems, behavior tree structures, and condition-based enemy logic using selector and sequence nodes. The lessons cover assigning characters to behavior trees, managing AI movement and patrol transitions, and introducing variable-driven decision-making processes. By the end of the module, learners will be equipped to create AI agents capable of patrolling, reacting to player proximity, and dynamically adjusting their actions using Blueprint-based logic.
  • Combat AI and Game Feedback
    • In this module, learners will deepen their understanding of AI-based combat systems and feedback mechanisms in Unreal Engine. The focus is on equipping enemy characters with interactive capabilities such as health management, visual awareness through Pawn Sensing, and audio detection using noise emitters. Students will also implement AI destruction logic and controlled enemy spawning, ensuring scalable enemy presence within the game world. Emphasis is placed on integrating game feedback through health meters and combat responses to enhance player immersion and challenge.
  • Game State, Save System, and UI
    • This module focuses on advanced gameplay systems that govern player progression, failure, persistence, and user interface control in Unreal Engine. Learners will implement randomized enemy behavior using wander points, build lose conditions and responsive UI screens, and construct save/load systems to maintain game continuity. The module also covers difficulty scaling through round-based challenges, pause functionality, and structured publishing of the full game interface. By the end, students will be able to integrate game state mechanics and user experience flows into a polished Unreal Engine project.
