What Happens Before the Backend Gets the Request

The course traces a request's path to a backend through six stages: accept, read, decrypt, parse, decode, and process. It explains that much of the work before processing happens in the kernel and that backends, web servers, proxies, frameworks, and databases may handle the stages differently.
