Universal Covering Spaces in Algebraic Topology

This lecture introduces universal covering spaces, showing how to construct one from homotopy classes of paths and how covering spaces relate to subgroups of fundamental groups. Examples connect the universal covers of familiar surfaces with the sphere, Euclidean plane, and hyperbolic plane.
