This IEEE conference talk examines the reliability of the Avatar Embodiment Questionnaire (aeQ) developed by Peck and Gonzalez-Franco. Learn about the assessment conducted through 2-5 repeated exposures at two-week intervals, where participants were embodied in both same and cross-gendered avatars. Discover how the questionnaire demonstrated acceptable or better reliability for same-gendered avatars, while showing questionable reliability initially but improving to acceptable-excellent reliability in subsequent trials for cross-gendered avatars. The 11-minute presentation from the "Evaluation methods" session provides valuable insights for researchers, suggesting that while the aeQ is generally reliable, experimental design modifications should be considered when using avatars significantly different from users. Presented by Tabitha C. Peck and Pauline W Cha from Davidson College at IEEE VR 2025.
