This IEEE conference talk explores how social pressure influences risk-taking behaviors in construction settings through an innovative Augmented Virtuality (AV) environment. Learn how researchers from Arizona State University and Purdue University investigated roofers' safety decisions when working alongside safe versus unsafe peers. Discover how the team developed a state-of-the-art AV model that successfully enhanced participants' sense of presence and social presence. The 11-minute presentation draws on social influence and behavioral intention theories to demonstrate how coworkers' risk-taking behaviors can serve as an exogenous factor motivating similar behaviors in others. Part of the "Co-Presence, Agency, and Social Interaction" session at IEEE VR 2025, this research offers valuable insights into workplace safety dynamics and the potential of virtual environments for studying human behavior under social pressure.
