This seminar talk from the Symplectic Geometry Seminar series explores the relationship between the contact version of the Hofer norm and positive loops of contactomorphisms. Learn about a new criterion for the existence of contractible positive loops in terms of open book decompositions, which leads to previously unknown examples of non-orderable contact manifolds. The presentation by Jakob Hedicke from Université de Montréal is based on joint work with Egor Shelukhin and will take place on March 25, 2025, at 1:00pm in Simonyi 101 with remote access available through the Institute for Advanced Study.
