This 10-minute IEEE conference talk explores innovative solutions for VR users facing rear interruptions. Discover research from Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) that addresses a common VR challenge: when interrupted from behind, users typically must turn their heads to see the real world through Passthrough, causing inconvenience and cybersickness. Learn about the findings from semi-structured interviews that revealed users' reluctance to use Passthrough for rear interruptions, and explore three novel Passthrough techniques designed to display rear views directly in front of users. Examine the results of a second study demonstrating how these techniques reduced physical and temporal demands, decreased cybersickness, and enhanced overall user experience. Gain insights into practical solutions for managing rear interruptions in VR while maintaining user comfort during this XR technology infrastructure session presented at IEEE VR 2025.
