This conference talk from FAST '25 presents "GogetaFS," a novel approach to deduplication file systems that merges metadata management to improve performance. Learn how researchers from Harbin Institute of Technology and Alibaba Group addressed the significant overhead (up to 38%) caused by in-storage deduplication metadata maintenance in the I/O path. Discover their innovative logical-fingerprint-physical (LFP) mapping technique that combines deduplication mapping with file system logical-to-physical mapping, allowing metadata to be persisted in a single I/O operation. The presentation, which won the Distinguished Artifact Award, demonstrates how GogetaFS achieves compatible, effective, and memory-efficient deduplication while consistently outperforming existing deduplication file systems across various workloads.
