Explore the challenges of integrating visual information across multiple depth layers in body-proximate multi-display systems combining optical see-through head-mounted displays (OST HMDs) with smartphones or smartwatches. Examine the results of an experiment quantifying the performance costs in visual search tasks when switching between an OST HMD and a body-proximate display. Learn about the significant increases in task completion time and error rates compared to single depth layer searches. Understand the design trade-offs and implications for developing joint OST HMD-body proximate display systems. Gain insights from this 26-minute conference talk presented at the ACM Symposium on Spatial User Interaction 2019, which investigates an important aspect of human-computer interaction in emerging mixed reality technologies.
