COVID-19 and the Earth System

Back in April 2020, right when the world first went into lockdown, a group of scientists got together online for a quick workshop. They realized something pretty amazing: all those shutdowns and travel bans were actually one of the biggest unplanned experiments on the planet ever. People stopped driving, factories went quiet, and suddenly the skies cleared in ways nobody had seen before. So the scientists asked two big questions. First, how would all that changed human behavior affect the air, the clouds, and even the climate? And second, could the environment itself—like pollution or weather—make the virus spread faster or hit people harder? The whole thing came from that raw, early moment of the pandemic, so it feels urgent and real. It's not some dry textbook thing. That said, it was put together pretty early on, so you won't find much about later waves or vaccines. It's probably best for college students or anyone who really likes science. But for a regular person who just wants to understand how our sudden quiet moment taught us something about the Earth, it's a thoughtful and worthwhile watch. Not perfect, but definitely human and smart.
