This lecture is the third part of Colin O'Flynn's PCB design series from Dalhousie University's ECED undergraduate program. Learn KiCad schematic creation, PCB design, and parts selection through a comprehensive 40-minute walkthrough. Begin with KiCad installation and setup, then progress through creating a new project, placing components, managing power connections, and assigning footprints. Master practical component selection with detailed examples for resistors, capacitors, LEDs, and connectors. Follow the complete workflow from schematic to PCB, including initial placement, setting trace widths, routing, creating PCB outlines, using Design Rule Checking (DRC), and exporting files for fabrication. The lecture concludes with demonstrating how to upload designs to JLCPCB. Slides are available on GitHub, and links to other parts in the series are provided for a complete PCB design education.
